Toronto Congress Centre Is The America’s First Trade And Convention Centre To Receive HACCP Accreditation

Toronto Congress Centre (TCC), a division of Congress Centres Inc., announced yesterday that it has become the first trade and convention facility in the Americas to receive Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) Accreditation, thereby meeting the highest standards in food safety practices in the world. The Honourable Andy Mitchell, Federal Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food, and The Honourable Leona Dombrowsky, Ontario’s Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, were on hand to offer their congratulations on this remarkable achievement.

“On behalf of the Government of Canada, I would like to congratulate Toronto Congress Centre on becoming HACCP-accredited,” said Minister Mitchell. “Your efforts represent an extraordinary achievement… Your leadership and innovation in this area should serve as a model for others in your industry.” Minister Dombrowsky added, “Your investment in food safety is an investment in the health and safety of your clients, and I commend the Toronto Congress Centre on adopting HACCP.”

The HACCP approach is a clear set of principles for assessing and controlling food safety during the preparation of food products and is used by both the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA). Toronto Congress Centre is accredited by the Guelph Food Technology Centre (GFTC) and the American Institute of Baking (AIB) International, two of the leading internationally recognized, third party food safety auditing organizations in the world. Since the Spring of 2003, TCC has invested an extraordinary amount of time, energy and financial resources in the implementation of its HACCP system to meet rigorous accreditation standards.

“We have taken a leadership position in North America by choosing to invest in an accreditation that has yet to become mandatory, and being a privately owned and operated facility allowed us to do this in a relatively short period of time,” commented Alain Sutton, Chairman and CEO of Congress Centres Inc. “To be the first and only trade and convention centre on the continent to be accredited by HACCP stands as a testament to our ongoing commitment to remain at the cutting edge in our industry.”

Toronto Congress Centre is Canada’s newest, largest and most innovative state-of-the-art trade and convention facility. As one of the top ten centres of its kind in North America, TCC prides itself on being Great Experience MakersTM (GEMTM), by providing the best customer experience through its exceptional facility and its resourceful and experienced staff. Currently, TCC offers 500,000 square- feet of prime exhibit space and construction is underway for an expansion to one million square-feet. With a five-star technologically enhanced convention space, TCC hosts some of the largest and most prestigious events in the country. The HACCP Accreditation is the latest achievement in TCC’s ongoing commitment to customer focus across all facets of the company.
